PROCEDURE FOR FILING DOCUMENTS AFTER HOURS
( PRO SE FILERS/LITIGANTS ONLY)
- After Hours Filings. Except as otherwise authorized by the Court, non-ECF filers, (Pro se Filers/Litigants) must follow these procedures to file petitions and other documents after the normal business hours of the court.
- Time and Manner of Filing. Documents may be filed by facsimile or email to the Bridgeport, New Haven and Hartford facsimile numbers or email address indicated on the court’s website (www.ctb.uscourts.gov) when the Clerk’s Office is not open after 4:00 pm EST, and before 9:00 am EST. Non-ECF filers shall transmit by facsimile or email, only the first page and the signature page of the document.
- Filing of Original Document. The entire original signed paper document, together with any required filing fee, must be filed in person with the Clerk no later than 4:00 pm EST on the next business day.
- Clerk’s Procedures Concerning Facsimile Documents. If the original signed document is not timely filed after the facsimile or email is transmitted, the Clerk will note that fact on the docket as follows: “Document received after hours has no force or effect - not filed in compliance with this procedure” and the facsimile or email copy will have no force or effect. Upon timely receipt of the original signed document and any required fee, the Clerk will stamp the following notation on the document: “This document is deemed filed on ( date and time) pursuant to the Court’s Procedure for Filing Papers After hours”. Documents filed in accordance with this Procedure will be deemed filed on the date and at the time printed on the document by the facsimile machine in the clerk’s office who received the facsimile or the date and time indicated on the email.
